48 Weeks to Sofia's 1st B-day

Sofia is developing quite the little personality. From day 1, we knew there was some true Latin blood in her but she has quite an obsession with playing with makeup, necklaces and purses. She watches very carefully as I got ready in the morning and wants to get ready like her Mom, including putting on sunglasses.

Sofia also loves to go to places she knows where she should not be. Her favorite new place to go is to climb up on the black file folder box and look out the window. Yes, as you can notice in the picture below it is only after everything is removed from the trash.

Sofia's 1st Birthday was very memorable. She got her first baby doll and enjoyed the weekend her little friends. Unfortunately, it was too cold to do it at Golden Gate Park so the party was quickly moved indoors. Sofia enjoyed playing with her friends and could not resist her cupcakes. She hardly knew what to do once she tasted the frosting and made sure to have one in each hand.

Sofia's first year check in went well. She is still off the charts in both height and weight but is proportional. In the true Sofia style, she called all the pictures of animals she saw in the doctor's office "dog" which is her official first word.

Weeks 45-47

Sofia was lucky enough to spend New Year's week with her Uncle Sam. After getting over the quite severe stranger anxiety (same thing happened with Uncle Scott), she became quite close to Sam. Her Uncle Scott is going to have to hang out with her for a few more hours to get over the stranger anxiety:)

Sofia's love for food is definitely being exhibited, particularly when it come to Mexican. She loves bean burritos with the four tortillas that Rocio brought back from Mexico. She also is a big fan of scrambled eggs.

Her little red wagon has finally become a hit. Although she uses it to learn how to walk, her favorite activity is to get in it and be pushed around the house like "Miss America." Sofia has taken her first steps and we are anxiously awaiting for her to start walking (especially her Mom who back is hurting carrying around 27lbs!).

Weeks 41-45

Sofia continues to get faster at crawling and even is standing by herself from time to time. We continue to see the Latin side of her as she loves to dance to any type of music. December was a fun month for Sofia as she got to hang out with her buddies from playgroup and go to a few Christmas parties. She spent Christmas at Grandma and Grandpa's hanging out with her best dog friend (Joey), bathing in the kitchen sink and even getting to try her first Christmas cookie. Stranger anxiety has set-in and Sofia has had a tough time warming up to Astor's friend, Sam and even her Uncle Scott. She definitely knows now who is Mom and Dad and says both "Mama" and "Dada."

Weeks 36-40

Sofia is definitely in the exploration phase and has found that she loves the swings and sand at Golden Gate Park. She enjoyed her first trick or treating as a bunny on a closed neighborhood street that faced so serious stroller traffic:))

At Sofia's 9 month check up, we found that she is officially off the charts in both height and weight but were praised once again by the doctor for maintaining her weight.

Sofia had a very memorable Thanksgiving weekend, eating turkey and mashed potatoes for the first time and even a little bite of apple pie. To continue with the festivities, she was baptised on Saturday, making the congregation chuckle a few times due to the serious/mad face she gave the pastor.

Weeks 31-36

Mom has been working long hours so the blog has not been updated for a while. However, in these six weeks some big milestones have happened. Sofia has started crawling and is getting into trouble all over the place. We have had to immediately baby proof the house as we have noticed leaves on plants missing, frames on the floor and even an ipod headset broken in half from her six teeth. She also finds ways to pull herself up on anything she can right now. Sofia was lucky enough to have her friend Jack spend the night and go to Fleet Week to watch the Blue Angles. The two of them seemed to have lots of fun together and tasted sand for the first time. Sofia also made her second trip to Mexico to visit her Aunt and Uncle. It was an exciting trip as Dad took her to tacos and she even got her first haircut.

Week 28, 29 & 30

Sofia seems to have mastered crawling backwards but just can't figure out how to go forward. Mom has started a new job that has required travel in the last few weeks but Sofia has done quite well with her Dad going on daily walk in the city and reading books in Spanish:)) Her favorite activity is by far swimming and she even had a chance to go a few times when she attended her first wedding in Yakima. Sofia looks forward to visiting baby Caroline and can hardly wait to play with her.

Week 25, 26 & 27

Sofia can now sit up by herself and is quite proud of it. She has been introduced to the world of fruits and vegetables and can't seem to get enough of it. Her favorites are pear, banana and peas but like her mom is not too fond of the carrots. Sofia has also begun to crawl backwards so we know that she will learn to go forward VERY soon.

The biggest news is that after countless hours waiting in the Mexican Consulate, Sofia is officially a Mexican citizen. By the time they needed her thumb print, she was fast asleep.
